Saudi jailed and flogged for gay video – Sent by Doug Ireland
The following appeared today on Al Bab, the blog on the Middle East by the former Middle East correspondent of The Guardian, Brian Whitaker (author of “Unspeakable Love: Gay and Lesbian life in the Middle East”). To see the video, click on the link to Brian’s blog:

Saudi jailed and flogged for gay video:
A 27-year-old Saudi man from Jeddah has been sentenced to 1,000 lashes, a year in jail and a fine of 5,000 riyals ($1,330) after appearing in an amateur gay video (above).
The film, which lasts 2 minutes and 46 seconds, shows him dressed in a police uniform asking to inspect someone’s driving licence and then flirtatiously demanding “physical comfort” after saying the licence is expired. He later opens his shirt and rubs his chest, removes his cap flaunting his long hair and waves a gun suggestively. That’s as far as it goes.
Arab News says: “The video quickly spread online and through SMS… Attempts have been made to block the video from being viewed in Saudi Arabia.”
The man has not been officially named but he is named on the internet as Ahmad al-Faqih. He was arrested in January and reportedly tried in a closed court. He was charged with impersonating a police officer, committing a “general security” offence and being homosexual.
The man who filmed the video was also arrested but his fate has not been reported.

Sons of bitches….these countries use force and murder against us and that is what they will only understand-take death to them.
March 12, 2010 at 3:03 am
This type of closed mindedness makes me sick. I understand the fears that these people have when it comes to “gays”, but if they would all look at the BASES of ALL religions it states that we are to love and accept one another. Help eachother. Do not murder! All this hate because they do not understand that love is love. Regardless of sex. This is no different than the Holocust. Obviously that is an extreme example, but think about it. Why were all the Jews killed? Different? Misunderstood? Feared? It it so hurtful to think that this is the way the world is. All over. People are hurting and killing and punishing others for their so called crimes. Since when is LOVING someone a crime!! I think the message needs to be sent THE MIND WORKS LIKE A PARACHUTE IT WORKS BEST WHEN OPEN. I may that their God is with them during this time. May they be protected. I am sure that their God would frown on having to watch his child abuse eachother all over LOVE. The world is evolving. We are all different and people are beng born different. Some may call them freaks or what have you, but the world needs to really take a look back in history and follow the time line and the changes that have happen over out exsistance. Life and beliefs have to change in order to keep up with our enviornment. Beliefs have to changes also in order to keep the BASES of the religion and beliefs relevant. Acceptance and LOVE. No GOD would want any of us suffering this way or any other way. I don’t care what you want to call your GOD it doesnt matter it all the SAME ENTITY. Ok, I am rambling, I just wanted to point out a few things. I pray that this world will no peace one day. That everyone will be able to accept eachother for who we are. LOVE one another.

I hope he is into a little S&M, domination, then the lashes will be like a sweet heavenly jihad of a gay passion session.
March 13, 2010 at 12:04 am
That isn’t funny. Can a person survive 1,000 lashes?? Would he really even be alive after this??
March 16, 2010 at 11:37 am
When will the world make itself heard that some people are gay, and the brutality and torture inflicted upon us for the fact that we are gay is unacceptable and against basic Human Rights.
I just hope that the British Government and in particular the Home Office is paying attention of what LGBT’s suffer in Saudi.
