Christians Organize March Against Homosexuality
05.09.2007 // Protest //
Kyiv – The Ukrainian Interchurch Council (UIC) has come out in favor of supporting an initiative to lead a march on 15 September 2007 in Kyiv on Khreshchatyk under the banner “Love is Against Homosexuality.” On the eve of the march, 14 September, the UIC is calling for a day of prayer and fasting for the “destruction of the evil purpose of strengthening homosexuality in Ukraine.” RISU’s Ukrainian-language webpage covered the story on 5 September 2007.
As RISU was informed by the UIC Coordinator, Bishop Volodymyr Harbar, “the goal of the march is to call attention to the Biblical view on the problem of homosexuality and lesbianism, to uphold government authorities in defense of traditional family values, and to support criminal penalties for homosexual propaganda and popularization.”

I am in Ukraine right now and have been for the past 2 months. I am a Canadian citizen and am visiting Ukraine and trying to learn more about Ukrainian culture and its citizens. I am very confused about this concept that “GLBT are bad people in the eyes of God.” To organize a parade in the name of God that bashes any other human being regardless of their orientation is completely against anything that God is. I am not some spiritual leader trying to convert everyone into having new beliefs but I am simply trying to understand why GLBT are “bad” people just because of their orientation. Our organized religions teach us that God made all human beings and he created us in the image of himself/ herself. Personnally, other then what I have just stated, I believe organized religion has totally distorted who God is and what is “right” and “wrong” in his eyes. I don’t understand why people would chose to believe in a God that condemns certain people for being loving towards others, even if it is to someone of the same sex, and who would reward others for being discriminating, violent, and excluding. No one has the right to judge anothers values and i’m not judging anyone who thinks that GLBT are “bad” people im simply curious to know why on earth would God create people he then wanted us to resent and hate? So much of the worlds violence has been done so in the name of God but WHY do we want to believe in such an evil, hateful God who would kill others because they are different.
I would love for others to post and let me know what opinions they have on the matter and simply enlighten me!
Thank you.
